Tuesday morning

It's 59 degrees and going to be a scorcher!

  • Tuesday: Hazy, hot and humid with isolated thunderstorms. High 92
  • Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. Muggy. Low 70
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, warm and humid with afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely. High 89 Low 66

Cool idea: the New Library is Air Conditioned!

Director Jeff Reynolds sent me an E-mail in which he said: "We're showing the Loomis Gang film here at the Library at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. Some of the Harding home folks are going to "wheel" over here for it, but the show is open to the public. Thought it would be good just before the Swamp Tour weekend. We plan to bring the Harding foks over here for a matinee at least once a month. The new projection system in our program room is super-dooper."

Speaking of which .........

Also in the Mailbox ..........

Yesterday (Monday) morning, Dick Martin sent me this update: "Lee the Horse Logger made it to the Winfield VFW and seemed to have a cozy camp set up."

Thanks, also, to Linda Hazelden and Kristi Kosmoski for telephoned "alerts" re: Lee's whereabouts!

From Becky Maggio, President of the Clifford J. Fulmer Post of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary: "This Wednesday at 7: P.M. PVT Steven Smith will be at the Legion. We are having a get-together so that we can meet him and welcome him home! Member from the Brookfield and Oriskany Falls Legion will be there, too. He is the soldier that we had the benefit for back in September and we raised $17,480 for him."

She also asked if I'd noticed the new flowers that had been planted around the tank - and yes: I had! She added: "Keith Alcott donated the flowers to us. Barb Atkins and her husband Doug planted the flowers around the Legion and Kathy Paré and I planted the ones around the tank on Saturday."

Nicki Suba wrote: "Did you happen to catch the Bald Eagle soaring over Chittening Pond when you visited yesterday? We were canoeing the pond when you took the picture (see yesterday's post and note the black Ford truck in the parking lot) and it clearly flew along the northern shore twice. It dipped in the pond once when we were watching and landed in a high tree. We were floating down the eastern end of the pond and quicly paddled back toward the island to get a closer look. It swooped right over us and flew back where we had just come from. Very exciting stuff!!! It was my first sighting of our national bird in the wild (I've seen many stuffed and in bird of prey exhibits) but my husband has seen numerous. Very bright white head and tail, so it was mature." (Yes: I did see the eagle! But I wasn't really sure that I was ACTUALLY seeing a real, honest-to-goodness EAGLE, so didn't mention it! I will be going back out to Chitttening, today, to see if I can catch another glimpse of him!)

You can't miss seeing the huge patch of Wild Sweet Peas on the Route 20 banking in front of the Youngs - Belfield homes in Sangerfield!

I've been noticing, too, that lots of work is being done on an apartment house on Osborn Avenue: that's nice!
Sorry about the rear-view-mirror in the image: but I wanted to be able to show you that although nothing's been done to smooth out the "Grooved Pavement," left two weeks ago by the NYS DOT, the new Home Shoppe got a beautifully smooth new parkinglot, yesterday!

The Yankees didn't play, yesterday, and the Sox didn't play well.
