Val Schenk just sent me this picture that she took of the Sunrise, this morning, as seen from Forge Hollow!

Thursday Morning, continued

It's RECYCLABLES Day!

28.6 degrees at 6 o'clock, and there's no precipitation.

The WCS Boys' Varsity Basketball Team beat Hamilton, 50 - 47.

Everyone agrees that this weather is generally grand for traveling - whether to Basketball Games or to the far South.

These were two of the largest -and loudest - Gaggles of Geese I've ever seen!

The only local travelers who are being hampered by the currently green conditions are the members of WASTA: the Waterville Area Snow Travelers Assoc.



Teams of members have been out marking trails, but only a very few have had a chance to ride on any of them.

The WKTV Weather Room statement doesn't give snowmobilers any reason to cheer, either:

"Friday will see us under the influence of a "dirty" southwest flow, that will leave us with a good amount of cloud cover, perhaps some breaks of sun, a few showers and mild temperatures. This will lead to a second round of steadier rain on Friday night and early Saturday. Aside from an early rain or snow shower, Sunday should be dry and quiet. A weak coastal low will pass by on Monday and could touch off a few rain or snow showers. Slightly cooler air filters in for Tuesday and Wednesday, along with the chance of a few snow showers. But almost immediately, mild air starts to work back in here for the remainder of next week.

Any return to sustained chilly weather with snow chances appears to be on hold until at least next weekend, if not later. "

The blogger is glad that there's no HUGE storm in the very immediate future because Mr. B. is now able to leave the Harding Nursing Home for rides in the country, lunches out, visits to his home-based television set and OTHER favorite big chair.

Wednesday Morning

The temperature at 6:30 is 26.4 degrees and there's no precipitation.

An article in this morning's Utica Observer-Dispatch will be of interest to those who know - or who have heard of - Blair Raker, who grew up on W. Bacon Street.

Yesterday, the Department of Public Works was taking down the wreaths and banners that had decorated Main Street.

I had the urge to shout "No! Wait! We havn't had Christmas yet!"

At least it never looked like Christmas!

It was a little bit more wint'ry "up" towards Paris ......

...... near "Spring Farm Cares" the shrubbery looked as if it had been "flocked,"

and there seemed to be some real snow up in the Deerfield Hills.

On December 31st, I found in my "mailbox" a Happy New Year greeting from a WBARTLETT in Rochester. "Thank You!" I wrote, "But I don't think I know who you are!" And now, several E-mail exchanges later, the man that Dottie Ruane always refers to as "Junior" Bartlett and I are old friends!

Not only that, but he wrote to his nephew - Pat and Clem's son, Brad Cowen, in Wilmington, Delaware - and I've just gotten a nice long letter from him! (He's apparently read the entire blog and followed all the links!)

It's Tuesday morning

It's one of those brain-bending "Monday-holiday" weeks.

Today is GARBAGE DAY!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is BIG TRASH DAY!

Thursday is Recyclables Day, and

Friday is Garbage Day, again!

It's 32.2 degrees at 6:00 A.M.

Here in "the hollow" it's just drippy, but the snowplow/sander just went past the house, so, if you live at what is usually referred to as a "higher elevation," you may have slippy conditions!



This "screensnap" of today's Weatherchannel forecast has been uploaded in the "oldfashioned" manner as an experiment to see how long the image lasts! If you find a "missing picture block," that's all you missed and I'll know that the system still isn't working right!

The blogger is not the only one to be effected by this warm spell: a few other's have been siezed by the unrealistic urge to declare that "it's Spring Cleaning Time!" (Yes - even windows!) They may be getting ahead of everyone else, but I'm just catching up!

It's already almost 40 degrees!

At least New Year's Eve Party-goers didn't have to worry about icy roads as much as yesterday's predictions would have led them to.

There was a full house at "Michael's," where reservations had been sold out for a week or more, and another party with Dinner, Music, Doorprizes and Fun took place out at the American Legion.

Details when available, and I may be able to find more flowers blooming, too!

Walkers, joggers, bikers and kids on new scooters were out in force.

Mark Mowrey took a break from yard work to chat with neighbors;

all the bays at the Car Wash were full;

and just outside the front door of the Harding Nursing Home

a dandelion bloomed!

Some readers are taking too literally the post time that appears on the blog and are wondering "Do you ever sleep?" That time - fed into the post automatically by Blogspot.com - is CALIFORNIA time: three hours earlier than Eastern Time!

Yes: I sleep!

Trivia for the day: it's tradition - but "Why?" Read the history of Auld Lang Syne and you'll either sing more loudly - or more softly!
