And later on, I found - hanging on my kitchen door - a bag with an entire CD of pictures - a couple hundred, at least! - that Mary Campbell had taken during the day and evening. I havn't even finished looking at all of them, but here are a few. I'll post more later on and I imagine that Mary will be adding them to the WCS website, too.

Two members of Faultline get a ride in the parade in Garry Cope's gleaming 1910 Buick.
Everyone loved that car, but all asked the same question: "Who polishes the brass?"

The local chapter of the Red Hat Society was there, of course .........

...... and there were floats from the High School where the theme of Homecoming Weekend was "Around the World."

The Saxaphone Ensemble warmed up on Putnam Street before boarding their special parade conveyance driven by Walt Tilbe.

Children of all ages loved the fire engines and bikers!

Michael's had a fine outdoor eatery set up .........


..... and June Richmond and Betty Tanner took a Greens and Riggies break to watch the parade .....

.... while, at Monument Park, Terry Tanner and Paula Gray manned the WCS Foundation tent - a busy gathering place.

Incidentally, according to the O-D, today's Rachel Ray Show will feature Chicken Riggies and the Mohawk Valley!

Elsewhere:

because for every person that reveled in the crowds of the Saturday festivities, there was another who breathed a sigh of relief to find that, on Sunday morning, peace and quiet had returned to the village.

There's a maple tree behind the Waterville Historical Society, on White Street, that fairly gleams!

And another in the Sangerfield Cemetery, here viewed from the nicely decorated yard of the Gorton residence.

A perfect forecast for a well-earned

Day of Rest

for the many who made yesterday's "Cruis'in" the biggest, most-successful small-town celebration that I've seen since the Village's Centennial in 1971!

Breakfast and Sign-ups for the Mary C. Cleary Run & Walk and I finally got to meet "Jr!"

I spent most of the day in the Park, but had this view of the runners ........

.......... and the walkers.

They gathered early at Green Acres.

There was always a good crowd in front of the Stage. I wonder what it was like when Fault Line appeared! (They had performed at the high school on Friday and "the kids were blown away!" )

The Boy Scouts were set up on White Street selling bottled water .......

............ and offering supervised practice on a Climbing Wall.

Where else would you find a Miniature Golf Course that was as Attractive AND Educational AND Fun as the one at the Waterville Historical Society on White Street?

And it was busy all day long!

The Park was filled with about 100 Classic and Antique automobiles, their owners .....

..... and browsers.

Garry Cope sat on the runningboard of a 1933 Nash to chat with some.....

.... while The Memorial Bandstand Fund's bright yellow "Make it Happen!" T's drew constant lookers who admired plans and drawings and filled the happily bandstand-shaped container with donations.

There was a steady line at the Optimist and Octagon's Hot Dog Stand.

Down on Firemen's Field, there was a Chicken Barbecue and then a Chili Contest! Stinkers appeared to have a full house, too.

I'd had it in mind to attend the 150th Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony at The Waterville Times, but there simply was NO place to put my car while I went inside, so I missed it!

I don't know of anything at all that didn't go as planned, and can only

give my heartiest Congratulations to those who

made the "Cruis'in" a success!

The Memorial Bandstand Fund committee will continue its fund-raising drive through the rest of the year with constant reminders - like the one waiting outside the library to greet evening dinner guests - that they need everyone's help to:

"Make it Happen!"

Friday afternoon Update

Activity began quite early this morning. An Open House sign went out in front of the Fire House and Maple Leaf Construction was in Green Acres Plaza building a base for the performance platform .............

which was delivered from the Park by the DPW.


Another DPW crew then began building a small - but smooth! - "ramp" to ease the antique and classic cars' ride into the Park for the Car Show.

By noon, two rides had been installed at Firemen's Field.


Mayor Jim Younes was in the pavillion getting everything ready for tomorrow morning's Pancake Breakfast.


The tent's in place for tomorrow evening's dinner. Word has it that all of the "Advance Sale" tickets are gone.

The first of the "Yard Sales" opened ..........

.......... and the Northern sidewalk on White Street closed!

SIXTY VENDORS
along Main Street!
(Last year there were sixteen!)

Major preparations are under way! A large portion of Firemen's Field has been marked off - presumably for amusement rides.


The "necessaries."


Stakes driven into the lawn to the East of the Library circle showed where the tent would be for the WCS Foundation Dinner.


Historical Society President Joe Falk and Kent Cole were putting the finishing touches on the Golf Course, out back, and the greenery in front of the building.


There's a new sign over the doorway of the Belfield Insurance Building.

Members of the Women's Club are baking pies, the Garden Club is corralling chrysanthemums and, with less-than-perfect timing .....

the sidewalk on the North side of Putnam Street has been torn up for repaving!

The forecast is only a little bit "iffy" -

spirits will not be dampened!

I intend to start my day with Breakfast at Firemen's Field: pancakes. And the Mayor's cooking!
